Lollypop Farm is an open-admission shelter, and we accept all animals that come through our doors. We understand that sometimes it may be necessary to give up a pet, and we will do our very best to place yours into a new home. However, we strongly suggest that you use us as a last resort.

If you decide to give up your pet and find a home for him yourself, please read the following tips:

Having Your Pet Euthanized for Health or Age Issues

If your pet is suffering from health- or age-related issues and you would like to have him euthanized, please contact your veterinarian. If you cannot afford your vet's fees, Lollypop Farm staff can perform this service. Please be advised you will not be able to be present with your pet during euthanasia. We ask for a donation of $54 (including tax) to help us with the cost of the service. If you can't afford the fee, we may be able to offer you a reduced rate. Please call (585) 223-1330 x275 to make an appointment. We also accept walk-in requests, but we prefer that you attempt to make an appointment. We also offer cremation services.

Surrendering Your Pet to Lollypop Farm

PLEASE BE CERTAIN THAT YOUR DECISION TO TURN YOUR PET IN TO THE SHELTER IS YOUR FINAL DECISION. We are unable to answer your inquiries after you leave a pet with us, so please do not contact us for this reason. If you have any doubts about surrendering your pet(s) to us, please DO NOT do so.

1. To admit an animal, please call (585) 223-1330 x275 to make an appointment. Appointments can be scheduled with an admissions counselor during these times:
   
   - Tuesday – Friday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 to 6:00 p.m.
   - Saturday – Monday 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.
   
   An Admissions Counselor will conduct a brief phone consultation before confirming your appointment. If you reach a voicemail, please leave the following information: your name, phone number; your pet’s name, breed, age and relevant medical or behavioral information; the general reason for seeking a new home for your pet. An Admissions Counselor will return your call within 24 hours to discuss available options and schedule an appointment as needed.
   
   Please note that while we request that you schedule an appointment, Lollypop Farm is an open-admission shelter, and we will never turn an animal away.
2. The Admissions Department is around the back left side of the building, and has a sign above it that reads, "Incoming Animals."
3. Please bring your pet's veterinary records, medication, and any other information about him. Cats are especially stressed when placed in new situations, so if possible, please bring a familiar bed or blanket. All dogs must be leashed, and all cats must be in carriers. We prefer that puppies and kittens be at least 8 weeks old at the time of surrender.
4. Please fill out a pet-profile sheet for your dog, cat, rabbit, bird or reptile in as much detail as possible and bring it to the shelter with your pet. This information will be very helpful to us. If you do not bring the form with you, you will be asked to fill it out at the shelter.
5. You will be asked to sign our Surrender Agreement, present identification, and answer important questions about your pet's behavior and the reason you are relinquishing him. There is no fee to surrender; however, we do request a donation of at least $40 per pet to help us with the high costs of care. Additional fees may apply.

NOTE: Leaving your pet at Lollypop Farm without having a staff person admit him to the shelter is considered abandonment. In New York State, this offense is a misdemeanor with a potential penalty of up to one year in jail and/or a fine of $1,000.
