Q. How do I get to Lollypop Farm?

A. The main Lollypop Farm shelter is in Fairport on the corner of Route 31 and Victor Road. There are also three satellite adoption centers. Visit our Hours & Locations page for addresses and links to directions.

Q. Is there a cost for adopting an animal from Lollypop Farm?

A. There are various adoption fees for adopting different animals at Lollypop Farm. You can read about the fees and what they include on our Adoption Fees page.

Q. What happens if my pet becomes lost?

A. You should contact us and the animal control officer in your town or city right away. You can check our inventory online of stray animals to see if a description matching your pet is there. We also ask you to come to Lollypop Farm to fill out a lost pet report along with a picture to be kept for two weeks (unless we are asked to keep it longer). In addition we recommend faxing (585-425-4183) or e-mailing us a flyer of the lost pet, or running a lost pet ad in the Democrat and Chronicle, as well as passing out lost pet flyers in your neighborhood. When you have found your pet we ask that you call us back and notify us.

Q. What happens if I find an animal?

A. Check to see if the animal is wearing a Humane Society Tag. If so, we can trace it in our computer or card file. If a dog is wearing a NYS license tag, it can be traced by calling the town or city clerk (Rochester: 428-7048) or the animal control officer in the town or city where the animal was found. If you are unable to keep the animal, you may bring it to Lollypop Farm for possible adoption.

If the animal has no tags, you must notify the animal control officer in the town or city where the animal was found, because it is against the law to harbor a stray dog without reporting it to the town or city. Lollypop Farm will take the animal if you can’t reach the animal control officer.

We also suggest running a free found pet ad in the Democrat and Chronicle and passing out flyers in your neighborhood.

Q. What happens if I find a wildlife animal?

A. We do not take in wildlife. We recommend you contact the Wildlife Department in Avon (226-2466) or the Eastridge Animal Hospital and Wildlife Center in Irondequoit (467-2120).

Q. Does Lollypop Farm handle animal cruelty complaints?

A. Our animal cruelty officers at Lollypop Farm respond to animal cruelty complaints in Monroe and surrouding counties. Please call (585) 223-6500 to report suspected cruelty, or call 9-1-1 if the incident is an emergency. All complaints are anonymous.

Q. How do I admit an animal to Lollypop Farm?

A. Please review the information on our When You Can No Longer Care for Your Pet page for some of the options you might consider before surrendering your animal to Lollypop Farm.

Lollypop Farm is an open-admission shelter, and we accept all animals that come through our doors. We understand that sometimes it may be necessary to give up a pet, and we will do our very best to place yours into a new home. However, we strongly suggest that you use us as a last resort. Q. Do you charge for euthanizing an animal?

A. We charge a flat fee of $54 (including tax) for euthanasia, regardless of the size of the animal. If this price is unaffordable, we will euthanize the animal for a lower fee or at no cost.

Q. Is there a time limit for animals at Lollypop Farm?

A. Lollypop Farm does not set a certain time period after which we euthanize animals. We try to keep animals available for adoption for as long as we can if they stay healthy, happy, and remain safe to be around people. When we can’t keep them here, we place many of them in staff members’ and volunteers’ homes in temporary foster care, while others are taken by local rescue groups to adopt out.

As an “open-admission” or “open-door” shelter, Lollypop Farm accepts every single animal that arrives at the shelter. We have about 30 animals coming every single day — about 11,000 in one year. If we housed too many animals at once, that would be unhealthy; overcrowding would lead to the spread of disease and would cause additional stress to the animals.

We work hard to euthanize as few animals as we can, and we treat all animals in our care as individuals. Lollypop Farm encourages all pet owners to spay and neuter their pets to help stem the tide of pet overpopulation.

Q. How do I volunteer at Lollypop Farm?

A. Much of what we do depends on the help of volunteers. You can become a Lollypop Farm volunteer by attending one of our recruitment meetings. Volunteering is fun and easy, and a great way to help the animals and people in our community. Just a few hours of your time can make a big difference. Visit our Volunteer Page for more information.

Q. Does Lollypop Farm offer tours of the shelter?

A. Yes! We offer guided tours by appointment only. Reservations may be made online or by calling (585) 223-1330 x103. You will be contacted to verify the date and start time before your tour. For groups wishing a "self-guided tour" you may pick up a guide sheet at the front desk. You are welcome to use this at any time during shelter hours.

Q. Do you recommend any Veterinary Hospitals?

A. We do not show any preference or recommend any veterinary hospitals. We suggest shopping around and calling three or four animal hospitals where you live.

Q. Who can I call if I have a complaint about a veterinarian?

A. Call the USDA Office of Professional Discipline at 1-800-442-8106.

Q. Who do I call when a cat needs to be rescued from a tree?

A. We first recommend waiting 4-8 hours for the cat to come down before calling a specialist. If the cat is still in the tree after this time try calling Ted Collins Tree Surgeon 381-9000 or Monroe Tree Service 436-2900.
