Youth Service Projects

Each year many school age children look to Lollypop Farm to fulfill their community service requirements for school or scouting activities. In order to volunteer at Lollypop Farm you must be 18 years or older and complete volunteer training. There are no projects or activities that can be done at the shelter with the animals. If you are interested in doing a community service project for the animals Lollypop Farm suggests these projects:

These projects are to be done on your own schedule. Unfortunately, we do not have staff available to supervise or mentor. These projects are also suitable for Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards.

Fundraisers

Money donations help us purchase equipment, food, and supplies to keep the animals warm, fed, and healthy.

Bake Sale

A bake sale is easy to put together and with a little extra effort, you can turn yours into a fun event. Make it fun by adding a theme such as a Christmas Cookie Exchange, Pet shapes, or even offer treats for pets!

Car/Dog Wash

Taking a spin off the traditional car wash fundraiser, a dog wash is an event where volunteers wash dogs and other pets in exchange for donations of money. You can either have a set rate per animal, or let donors give any amount of money they want. All it takes to hold this fundraiser is a couple of buckets, water hoses, towels, quality pet shampoo and brushes.

Pennies for Pets or Penny Wars

This is great to do in schools! You can do it between classrooms in the same grade level or school-wide! Each team has a bucket for collecting coins or dollar bills. The value of any pennies collected by a group count positively toward that group's point total, while the value of other coins or dollar bills are subtracted. The object is to be the team with the most points at the end of the “war.” After the winner has been determined, the money raised can be donated to Lollypop Farm in general or it may be used to purchase supplies from our Wish List. We would love to have pictures and/or visit the “battlefield” to help kickoff the event!

School Dance Fundraiser

A local DJ or band may be willing to perform for free or at a discount if they know proceeds from the admission charge will go to help animals.

Drives

  • Have a drive at your school or church with boxes for people to leave donations.
  • Work with a store to arrange a time to collect donations
  • Distribute flyers around your neighborhood telling people you will be back on a specific day to pick up any donations they leave on their doorstep.

Shelter Wish List/Animal Wish List

Our shelter is always in need of supplies. The Animal Wish List was created just for supplies that affect the animals directly. Click here to view our entire Wish List.

Newspapers

Newspapers are used to line the bottom of animal cages. Please remove glossy circulars and stack the newspapers neatly in paper grocery bags. Please do not shred newspaper.

Blankets, Sheets, and Towels

New or gently used, we put them to use for cat beds, grooming, in the veterinary clinic, and cleaning up after shelter animals.

Stuffed Animals

Our cats love to have a friend to snuggle with while they wait for their forever home. When they are adopted, they get to bring their stuffed friend home with them!

Laundry detergent, Paper towels, Dog and Cat treats.

  • Local gas stations for our Pet Assisted Therapy program and Law Enforcement vehicles
  • Michaels for Education Program supplies

Things You Can Make

Cat Toys

There are MANY easy ways to make cat toys! Get some ideas at www.squidoo.com/homemadecattoys

Cat Blankets

You can choose to make cat blankets to be used in the shelter. A good size for homemade cat blankets is approximately 12" x 24". They can be made from any washable material and stuffed with batting. You can also make the “No Sew” blankets in the same size.

Dog Biscuits

Find a good recipe and bake some dog biscuits! We can hand them out at our adoption desk after you drop them off. You can find homemade dog cookie recipes online or by checking out cookbooks for dogs at the library.

When You Are Finished

When you complete your project, please bring your final product to Lollypop Farm during regular shelter hours. Our staff and volunteers at the reception desk can sign any paperwork, provide a donation receipt, and will award you with a Certificate of Appreciation for your contribution!

If you have any digital photos of your project in process, please email them to info@lollypop.org.
