Animal Crimes Intervention Program

What is ACIP?

The Animal Crimes Intervention Program (ACIP) is a three-month psychoeducational learning course designed for those convicted of animal crimes to learn accountability and understand prior motivations around animal abuse or neglect. Ultimately, the program’s goal is to make communities safer for animals and people.

ACIP is designed to make communities safer for animals and people alike. Sessions through the Monroe County Office of Probation are scheduled based on demand, and able to accommodate up to 10 participants.

In this multi-week program, those convicted of animal crimes and those currently on probation, focus on accountability and discuss factors that motivated animal abuse or neglect, including attitudes, beliefs, and other risk factors.

How are people selected?

People who are charged with crimes related to animals maybe referred to the program by animal control, probation officers or by Lollypop Farm Humane Law Enforcement, etc. (Monroe County and neighboring counties).

What is the Link?

Researchers and professionals in human services and animal welfare have established significant connections between animal abuse, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, elder abuse, and other forms of violence. This connection between different forms of violence is referred to as “The Link.” In order to help prevent cases of human or animal abuse, the Humane Law Enforcement Team at Lollypop Farm continues to work to change laws and how crimes are reported. By understanding how and why crimes happen, education and change can take place to help prevent further violence.
