Lollypop Farm hosts special “Clear the Kennels” Dog Adoption Event this weekend

No Appointment Necessary, 50% Off Adoption Fees

Fairport, N.Y. (November 3, 2022) – With Lollypop Farm mirroring the national trend of dogs spending longer than usual at shelters, the Fairport facility is hosting a “Clear the Kennels” adoption event this weekend, Saturday, and Sunday, November 5 and 6 at their main campus (99 Victor Road, Fairport). In response to the many dogs available for adoption—and to make room for additional dogs—Lollypop Farm is foregoing its appointment-only policy and will open its doors to potential dog adopter walk-ins from 10 am – 4:30 pm both days.

“This year we are seeing that dogs are not getting adopted as quickly,” said Adrienne McHargue, Vice-President and COO of Lollypop Farm. “According to Shelter Animals Counts – The National Database, this past quarter alone there were 7.3% more animals entering shelters than leaving,” continued McHargue. “This means that there are too many animals in shelters waiting for adoption.”

All available dogs are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. As further encouragement, Lollypop Farm will be offering a 50% discount and senior pets can go home for free during this weekend’s event only. Adoption counselors know each dog and their needs, so can play “matchmaker” to ensure the best fit for both canine and human companions. Potential adopters have the opportunity for individual meet-and-greets with a prospective dog before making the adoption decision.

Volunteer dog foster homes are also needed, so Lollypop Farm is expediting the foster care process past the weekend in order to make space in the shelter. Dogs listed on the website represent only a small percentage of the 131 dogs currently “in the care” of Lollypop Farm. Dogs at Lollypop Farm may be receiving medical treatment or behavior support before being made available for adoption. Foster care volunteers are vital to ensuring them a quiet space to rest and recover before being able to find a new home. Anyone interested in volunteering to be a foster dog parent can sign up
through this link to be contacted by a foster care coordinator.

“The need in our community doesn’t go away,” noted McHargue. “In order to continue to help animals, we need to send pets to new homes. We’re asking the Greater Rochester community to please visit Lollypop Farm this weekend to meet with our adoption counselors and learn about the deserving dogs available for adoption.”
