Lollypop Farm Launches Animal Crime Intervention Program

Local Psychoeducational Learning Course to Have National Reach

Fairport, N.Y., June 17, 2019 – Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, is implementing a unique Animal Crime Intervention Program (A.C.I.P.) created by Animals & Society Institute (ASI).

A.C.I.P. is a three-month psychoeducational learning course designed for those convicted of animal crimes to learn accountability and understand prior motivations around animal abuse or neglect.Ultimately, the program’s goal is to make communities safer for animals and people.

Over the past 35 years, researchers and professionals have established significant correlations between animal abuse, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, elder abuse, and other forms of violence.Today, the mistreatment of animals is recognized as an important indicator of other concerns, and is no longer considered an isolated issue.

The program will launch in Fall 2019 at the Monroe County Office of Probation. Sessions will be scheduled based on demand, and will be able to accommodate up to 20  participants. Lollypop Farm’s Humane Education team will implement A.C.I.P. sessions alongside two program facilitators who have degrees in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing.

“As an organization, our mission is to enhance the human-animal connection,” said Alice Calabrese, CAWA President and CEO of Lollypop Farm. “This state-of-the-art program does more than reprimand those who have broken the law. It focuses on accountability and factors that motivated the animal abuse or neglect while teaching individuals  Compassion, managing anger, and the importance of effective communication.”

For more than 145 years, Lollypop Farm has investigated animal cruelty and is  committed to not only preventing animal crimes but providing interventions. For additional information about Animal Crime Intervention Program, call 585-223-1330.
