LOLLYPOP FARM MOBILIZES DURING KITTEN SEASON TO PROVIDE LIFE-SAVING RESOURCES AND SEEKS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
FAIRPORT, N.Y. – As summer arrives in Western New York, communities throughout the region are seeing an influx of vulnerable felines as kitten season is in full swing. Animal welfare organizations across the United States, including Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, are mobilizing resources to meet the urgent needs of these newborn animals. With an increase in stray, orphaned, or unexpectedly born litters, Lollypop Farm is stepping up to provide critical care, support, and guidance for both kittens and the community. Through foster care programs, veterinary services, adoption opportunities, and educational outreach, Lollypop Farm is committed to ensuring that every animal has a chance at a healthy start and a loving home.
In 2024, Lollypop Farm provided critical care and medical attention to over 1,000 kittens thanks in large part to the heroic contributions of its foster network. These foster families enable the rescue of a far greater number of animals, creating space and a temporary home for animals in need. Fosters at Lollypop Farm are provided with all the necessary food, medication, and veterinary services to enable the best care possible for their foster pets.
“Fostering is a vitally important resource that expands our organization’s walls and capabilities, particularly during kitten season,” states Sue Dusett, Foster Care Supervisor at Lollypop Farm. “With so many kittens needing round-the-clock care or medical treatments, our foster volunteers help us save lives every day and create a loving environment for so many animals in need.”
In addition to its foster care program, Lollypop Farm offers a variety of resources to support pet owners in the Greater Rochester area. These include low-cost veterinary care, assistance with pet food and supplies, and behavioral support to help keep pets in loving homes. The organization is also committed to raising awareness and providing education to promote responsible pet ownership and protect animals throughout the community.
As part of its on-going work to safeguard animals, Lollypop Farm recommends taking the following steps should anyone find a litter of kittens.
What to Do If You Find Kittens
Wait and Watch: If you see kittens alone, the mother may just be out looking for food. Monitor from a distance for several hours.
If the Mother Returns: That’s great news—she’s caring for her kittens. It’s best to leave them unless they appear sick or injured.
If the Mother Doesn’t Return: You can help by calling Lollypop Farm for guidance.
If Injured or Sick: Bring the kittens or mother directly to Lollypop Farm for medical help.
Lollypop Farm Seeks Community Support
Lollypop Farm expects the surge in kittens to continue over the next several months and is asking for community support through fostering, adoption, and donations.
