Lollypop Farm Builds New Equine Training and Rehabilitation Arena to Boost Horse Adoptions

Fairport, N.Y. — Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has begun construction on a new equine training and rehabilitation arena on the organization’s main campus in Fairport. The 100’ x 180’ indoor arena is part of a $1.1 million dollar project to enhance Lollypop Farm’s Equine Program. This program will provide homeless and abused equine animals a safe space for training and rehabilitation, dedicated equine training and care staff, veterinary treatment, farrier visits, hay, grain, and other forms of care already provided by the organization.

Over the last decade, Lollypop Farm has taken in over 250 horses relinquished by owners and seized from cruelty situations. “More often than not, these horses have not been properly cared for and need extensive veterinary care, rehabilitation, and training,” says President and CEO Alice Calabrese. “This new indoor ring and the enhancements to the Equine Program will provide homeless horses with the dedicated care they need to realize their potential and find loving homes more quickly.”

On average the organization pays upwards of $250 a month for the care of each horse. The new Equine Program is aimed at boosting the quantity and quality of the organization’s training efforts even through the long Rochester winters.

Through Lollypop Farm’s Pony Up! Campaign nearly $1 million has already been raised to support the new training and rehabilitation center and the other enhancements to the Equine Program. In the last phase of this fundraising campaign, Honorary Chair of the Pony Up! Campaign, Wanda Polisseni, is matching funds donated from the community. Construction on the new Equine Training and Rehabilitation Arena will be completed in September 2016. To learn more about the Pony Up! Campaign and new training arena visit: www.lollypop.org/ponyup.
