Lollypop Farm Holds Dedication for New Equine Training and Rehabilitation Center
Fairport, N.Y. — Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, held a dedication to announce the completion of a new equine training and rehabilitation center on the organization’s main campus in Fairport. The 100’ x 180’ indoor arena is part of a $1.1 million dollar project to enhance Lollypop Farm’s equine care and rehabilitation.
Named in honor of past Pittsford resident and Lollypop Farm supporter, Evelyn Z. Diehl, the Equine Training and Rehabilitation Center will provide a space for Lollypop Farm staff to safely work year round with equine animals surrendered to the organization. “Our community has needed a center like this to provide care for the homeless abused horses for a long time now,” says Alice Calabrese, President and CEO of Lollypop Farm. “We are thrilled that this dream is now being realized at Lollypop Farm thanks to support from compassionate members of the equine community.”
Calabrese was joined by Campaign Chair Debby Wilson and Honorary Chair Wanda Polisseni at the dedication. Debby Wilson, a long-time contributor to Humane Society, has been an advocate for horses in need in the community having adopted from Lollypop Farm a number of horses herself. Well-known friend of horses, Polisseni helped support the campaign by matching donations brought in by the community. Vice-President & COO, Gillian Hargrave and Chairman of the Board, David Swinford also expressed their pleasure to provide superior care for all equine surrendered at Lollypop Farm.
Over the last decade, Lollypop Farm has taken in over 250 horses relinquished by owners or seized from cruelty situations. Many of these animals have required extended care, spanning from a few months to a few years. The new equine arena will allow Lollypop Farm to boost the quantity and quality of the organization’s efforts to provide care for these animals even through the long Rochester winters.
