Adopt From Foster FAQs

What does it mean when a pet has the "Adopt From Foster" banner on their profile?

It means that the pet is lucky enough to spend their time in a foster home until they find a family to call their very own! They can be adopted right from their foster home versus having to be here at the shelter.

Where is this pet actually located?

They are in a loving foster home! All pets who have the "Adopt From Foster" banner will need an appointment in order to meet them. Sometimes, pets are met right in their foster home and other times, they are brought back to the shelter for a meet and greet - each situation may be a little different, but you and that pet's point person will work out those details!

How do I meet them/what is the adoption process?

The first step is to fill out the form that will pop up once you click the "Ask About Meeting Me button". From there, one of our staff members will reach out to you with more information about the pet and how to meet them.

Are you interested in helping a pet stay out of the shelter while they wait for an adopter?

We love to hear that! Become a foster volunteer at lollypop.org/foster. You will receive emails letting you know who is eligible for our "Adopt From Foster" program!

Meet Max! Mr. Maximillian has had a rough start to life, but he is a testament to what love and care can do for a dog. Maxwell came from a large intake situation with over 140 other dogs. This left him severely undersocialized to anything that wasn’t other dogs that looked like him. He needed to learn all about the world, the people, other animals, and things that he’d never seen before. He’s done all of this with bravery and the need to protect those he loves the most: his “elf dog” siblings. (Elf is the silly name we came up with for these kiddos, and a lot of the adopters and fosters use the term.) Maximus was a part of a loving home with two other elf siblings for about a year, and due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to come back to Lollypop Farm. His siblings have found their homes, but Maxie has still been waiting. After his brother left his foster home, we were worried that he'd be lost, and wouldn’t know what to do with himself. Enter Chauncey! Chauncey is another dog from this situation that had to be rehomed, and Max’s loving foster decided to take him in so Max could have another friend. The two boys adore each other. They sleep together, play together, and Chauncey has helped MaxMax to become more confident. Whether they go home together or separately, we suggest that Max’n’cheese has another dog sibling that he can get to know. We may have you bring your pup to the foster’s for a dog-to-dog visit to see how they’d do together, since Maxatron 5000 can be a bit opinionated about his friends. If you choose to embark on this journey with Maximum Overdrive, you’ll have the support of the behavior team with you. You’re not alone! Taking on a dog from a start like his can be a very challenging thing, but when you see them come out of their shells and make brave choices, it’s the best feeling in the whole wide world.
