Lollypop Farm’s Humane Education team is having a profound impact on the lives of so many people in our community, including those who have selflessly served our country.
The transition from military to civilian life can bring unique challenges, including post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, or social isolation. Research consistently shows that companion animals can play a powerful role in helping with mental health. For many veterans, a pet isn’t just a companion; they’re a lifeline.
Through a partnership with the Veterans Outreach Center’s Vets with Pets program, part of its Health and Wellness services, Humane Education is helping ensure that veterans and their beloved companions have the tools they need to thrive together.

“For many veterans, a pet is an essential partner for their physical and mental wellness,” Veterans Outreach Center Executive Director & U.S. Army veteran Laura Heltz said. “By partnering with Lollypop Farm, we are breaking down the barriers to care, meeting veterans where they are, and ensuring that they and their pets can thrive at every stage of life after service.”
Programs offered through this partnership include Cats 101 and Dogs 101, which provide veterans with foundational knowledge about pet behavior, care, and communication. These programs help them build stronger, healthier relationships with their pets.
Another offering is the Pet First Aid and CPR class, presented in partnership with Safety Team Solutions. This hands-on course teaches participants how to check vital signs, recognize signs of illness or injury, and administer first aid and CPR to cats and dogs, which are critical skills that can help families safely reach emergency veterinary care when every second counts.

“We are proud to partner with the ‘Vets with Pets’ program to provide accessible education and animal wellness resources to veterans in the Rochester community,” states Humane Education Supervisor and Camp Lead Alyssa Catholdi. “By integrating Lollypop Farm with the Veterans Outreach Center’s incredible support network, we are ensuring that ‘both ends of the leash’ are cared for. We also recognize the profound impact animals have on a veteran’s health and happiness.”
Together, this partnership strengthens the well-being of veterans and the animals who stand beside them.
