Every year, Lollypop Farm receives hundreds of stray animals. While many people think of cats and dogs when they hear “stray,” our shelter often cares for a surprising variety of other animals, too.
What happens when a stray animal arrives at Lollypop Farm?
When a stray animal arrives at Lollypop Farm, our team immediately checks for a microchip or any form of identification. A photo of the animal is taken and added to our website to help reunite them with their family.
We hold stray animals for a minimum of 10 days before making them available for adoption. This “stray hold” gives owners time to locate and reclaim their lost pet. If you ever lose a pet, be sure to check our Lost and Found page for helpful information and impactful resources, including online forms to report a lost or found pet, and safety tips to help bring them home.
Unexpected Guests: Unique Strays at Lollypop Farm
As one of the few animal shelters in New York that can help with farm animals, stray farm friends sometimes come through our doors. Take, for example, a young rooster found wandering through East Irondequoit. A Good Samaritan brought him to the shelter, and now he’s receiving plenty of care and attention from our dedicated farm staff while he awaits a reunion or a new home.
Pigeons may be common in our area, but one bird recently stood out: it had a band on its leg, indicating it had been owned, possibly used as a homing or racing pigeon. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to trace the band back to its owner. In the meantime, this feathered friend is safe at the shelter while we wait to see if anyone comes forward. If not, the pigeon will be placed for adoption.
And then there was the bearded dragon. Native to Australia, these reptiles are popular pets, but they’re not something you’d expect to find outdoors in Webster, New York. When someone spotted this little lizard roaming free, they knew just where to bring him.
You Make This Work Possible
Thanks to generous support from our community, we’re able to provide shelter, food, and medical care for all kinds of animals — furry, feathered, and scaled. Your donations ensure that every stray who comes through our doors has a safe place to stay while they wait for their family or a second chance at love.
Whether it’s a cat, a dog, or a “strange” stray, every animal deserves the chance to find their way home. Thank you for helping make that happen.
Kindness for All Kind
As Lollypop Farm’s capacity to care for animals in our community grows, our need to house vital resources does as well. The Kindness for All Kind capital campaign will help us achieve our ultimate goal to help better the lives of animals and people. This transformational project will bolster our life-saving mission by providing expanded facilities to help care for more stray and homeless animals, supporting our community through a new support center, and making improvements to our veterinary clinic to care for more sick pets, among other improvements.
