Lollypop Farm to Renovate Dog Holding Kennels, Improving Overall Animal Health

Fairport, N.Y. (April 29, 2019) – Today Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, will start renovating kennels in six dog holding suites to improve the overall health of dogs during their stay. This project is expected to be completed by mid-summer.

Dogs stay in these kennels during stray holds or while the Lollypop Farm team addresses dogs’ medical or behavioral concerns before being made available for adoption. The renovation includes upgrading the HVAC, adding acoustical tiles to reduce noise, refinishing walls and floors and adding doors to courtyards improving outdoor access and reducing disease transmission. Construction will address one suite at a time, estimating 3-4 weeks per suite.

“We’re so pleased to finally be able to make improvements that will create an ideal environment for the dogs we help,” says Erin Sandle, Lollypop Farm’s Director of Shelter Services. “This project is critical to improving the physical and mental health of dogs during their stay with us, before heading off to new adoptive homes.”

Due to this renovation, capacity for dogs will be decreased during this time period. Lollypop Farm urges those who are considering rehoming their pet, having medical issues they can’t afford, or having found a stray animal to contact the shelter for counseling and resources. Lollypop Farm may be able to help with the issue, direct to another community resource, or schedule an appointment for surrendering a pet at a future date. Walk-ins are discouraged as there may be no capacity for that pet. For community pet care resources, visit https://www.lollypop.org/services/other-community-resources/. Part of the funding for this project was granted by the Companion Animal Capital Fund in the inaugural round of funding offered by New York state in 2017.
