When Duke first arrived at Lollypop Farm about a year ago, it was clear he had already endured more than most dogs should. Brought to the shelter by Humane Law Enforcement Officer Jerry Reger, Duke weighed just 59 pounds, a number far too small for his large frame.
During his initial examination at Klingenstein Veterinary Clinic, the veterinary team noticed Duke showed signs of significant discomfort along his back. Radiographs confirmed their concerns. Duke was diagnosed with severe spondylosis in his spine, along with mild inflammatory changes in both knees and mild hip dysplasia. These painful conditions had likely been affecting him for a long time.
Despite everything, Duke’s spirit was waiting for the chance to shine.

With veterinary care, patience, and the support of compassionate donors, Duke was given the opportunity he deserved. And that’s exactly what happened.
Today, Duke is living his best life with his devoted adopter, Eileen, who says he quickly claimed his place as the king of the house. “Duke is the best snuggle buddy,” she shares. “He hogs the bed, won’t move over, and snores. Before we fall asleep, he puts his paw on my arm and gives me kisses.”
For Eileen, these small moments mean everything. “I LOVE it and love him beyond words,” she says. “Thank you for the opportunity to be a dog mom and to spoil a pitbull.”

Eileen focused on helping Duke thrive with a healthy diet and plenty of love, and his transformation has been remarkable, now running and playing like a young dog. But what matters most to her is something even simpler: “He is so happy.”
Eileen believes Duke’s second chance started long before adoption day. “I share this because Officer Reger alone made it possible,” she says. “Thank you. I appreciate you every day—and everyone at Lollypop. You are all a blessing. Please remember that every day.”
Duke’s story is a powerful reminder that it takes a community to help pets in need. From the Humane Law Enforcement officer who brought him to safety, to the veterinary team who treated his pain, to the adopter who gave him a loving home, to the donors helping provide for his care, every step helped transform his life.
