When Sage arrived at Lollypop Farm this spring, she needed immediate veterinary care and the chance to feel safe again.

Just over a year old, the sweet pit bull mix came to us after our Humane Law Enforcement team responded alongside local police to a domestic violence call. In the midst of a crisis affecting both people and animals, Sage was found with a devastating injury. Her femur had been broken in two.

Thanks to compassionate supporters like you, Sage didn’t have to wait for help.

Soon after arriving, Dr. Cristina Cadavieco performed the specialized orthopedic surgery Sage urgently needed at the Klingenstein Veterinary Clinic. Using a plate and pin to carefully stabilize the broken bone, she allowed Sage to heal. Over the following weeks, Sage rested under the watchful care of our veterinary team. Once her leg had strengthened, Dr. Cristina removed the pin and completed Sage’s spay surgery, bringing her one step closer to a brighter future.

After everything she had experienced, Sage was understandably cautious around new people, especially men. Thanks to your support, she had exactly what she needed: patient staff and a loving foster home where she could build confidence at her own pace.

Little by little, Sage began to show everyone who she truly was. The hesitant dog who once kept her distance became a playful, wiggly companion who eagerly greeted the people she trusted. With every follow-up appointment, she walked through our doors with a little more confidence, quickly becoming a favorite among the staff who had cheered her on throughout her recovery.

Eventually, Sage was healthy enough to participate in our Sleepover Adoption program, allowing a family to experience just how wonderful she was outside the shelter. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love.

Recently, Sage returned to Lollypop Farm for a final recheck; the results brought smiles all around. Sage’s leg has healed beautifully, and she has officially been cleared for full adoption.

Your generosity made every step of that journey possible. From surgery and veterinary care to foster support, behavioral rehabilitation, and ultimately adoption, you ensured Sage received not just the treatment she needed but the time and compassion every animal deserves.
