Designed for young animal lovers ages 8 to 12, celebrate Adopt a Dog Month by participating in a hands-on workshop all about understanding our canine companion and how to stay safe around them. First, we will learn how to “speak dog” by studying body language. Using the easy-to-remember TEMP guide (Tails, Ears/Eyes, Mouth, and Posture), students will discover how to read clues that show if a dog is happy, scared, or needs some space. We will practice important safety skills, including dog bite prevention and the “3-Step Permission Rule” for meeting new dogs. Students will also learn exactly what to do—like how to “be a tree”—if a dog gets a little too excited. In the second half of the class, students will learn why brain games are so important for a dog’s well-being and will get to craft handmade puzzle toys. These fun enrichment items help reduce stress for shelter pups and keep them happy and relaxed while they wait to be adopted!
