Humane Society of Greater Rochester

On Wednesday, August 12, we hosted our very first adoption special since the pandemic hit in mid-March—#Adopt-A-Thon2020! Since Lollypop Farm is still not accessible to the public except by adoption appointment, interested adopters were able to sign up in advance for a specific time slot to come to the shelter. They then met with an adoption counselor, who learned what sort of feline friend they were looking for and matched families with cats waiting for homes.

Our adoption counselors got to know what sort of feline friend adopters were looking for, then a made purrrrfect matches!

This time of year, cats and kittens are brought to Lollypop Farm every day, and we needed to make space for everyone. Adopters who participated in our Adopt-A-Thon were both finding their new feline family member, and saving a life.

Kitten season (which can span from spring to fall) is a great time to consider adopting a cat or kitten, and helping to free up space in animal shelters.

The adoption special featured 50% off all cats and kittens, and waived adoption fees for senior cats 6 years and older. All cats that went home after the Adopt-A-Thon were spayed and neutered, checked out by a veterinarian in our clinic, had flea treatment, deworming, been microchipped, got an ID tag, and more!

Butter, an adorable 2-month-old kitten, went home as a result of the Adopt-A-Thon. His new family renamed him “Scamper.”

Several adopters shared photos on social media to show how quickly their new feline family members were adjusting. Momix, who was renamed Espresso, was immediately comfortable in her new surroundings and quickly claimed her favorite spot on the couch.

Momix (now Espresso!) found a happy home yesterday!

At the end of a day-long adoption special, there’s nothing we like to see more than empty kitty condos. Thank you to everyone who attended and welcomed new feline family members into their homes!

Have the best life ever, kitties!
