Humane Society of Greater Rochester

Since 1873, when our organization was originally called The Humane Society of Rochester and Monroe County, we have been dedicated to fighting cruelty and helping animals in our community. Over the past few decades our services have changed to meet the needs of our pet-loving community.

It became clear that it was time to reflect the evolving nature of our 147-year-old organization. Our new vision and mission statements underscore the importance of working with people like you in the community to save the lives of pets and create a more humane community.

Working together, we can build a just and compassionate world for animals.

“We are a multi-faceted organization that investigates animal cruelty offenses and provides resources to pet owners in crisis,” explains President & CEO Alice Calabrese. “However, we can make the most difference for animals in need when we partner with individuals and organizations to bring about change. Our new statements reaffirm our commitment to saving lives together.”

A Central Resource for Pet-Related Information

Even with this new vision and mission, it’s important to note that the Lollypop Farm that you’ve come to know, love, and support is still here. We are still a key resource in the community for all things pets! Whether you want to learn about animals, adopt a pet, get help for the pets you have, or help save other pets, Lollypop Farm is here for you. And if there is a service you need that we don’t have, we’ll help you find that resource out in the community.

“We are finding even more ways to keep pets in their homes, with creative ways to keep pets with the families who love them. We urge pet owners to reach out for advice or assistance before there is an urgent crisis. And we will always be here for homeless pets and to fight animal crimes.”

Your Support is Critical

The key to making the Greater Rochester area a humane community and saving even more lives is…you! Your support—through adoptions, by reporting suspected animal crimes, by showing your respect for animals in your daily lives, with every donation you make—is the only way that we can achieve our vision….together!
