Humane Society of Greater Rochester

As news of extended closings and social distancing recommendations due to COVID-19 continue, I want to take a moment to give you an update from Lollypop Farm.

I also want to let you know why we need your help right now, and what your support means for the animals.

Lifesaving Services

The need to investigate animal cruelty and neglect continues. Our Humane Law Enforcement officers continue their daily response to reports of suspected animal crimes. And we still remain a safe refuge for pets who have nowhere else to go, continuing to take pets in urgent need of care. Sick or injured animals have their critical needs addressed by our dedicated veterinary team, while the shelter, farm, and equine teams provide ongoing compassionate care to animals both inside the building and out on the farm. And thanks to the support of hundreds of foster volunteers, many of the animals simply in need of time are able to rest comfortably in temporary homes. Through all of this, safety is our priority so we have changed protocols and limited the number of staff in the building for everyone’s protection.

Adoptions

We are continuing to adopt by appointment and are being more vigilant than ever about social distancing to keep our staff and the community safe. As you know, for every animal who leaves the shelter for a new home, we can help another pet who needs us. Thankfully, we have had a huge outpouring of interest in adopting a new pet and so we are currently adding those interested to a waitlist.

Connection

We miss you! We’ve had to cancel dog training classes, workshops, children’s programming, and many events for at least the next month. But we’ve been hard at work for ways to connect with you virtually, no matter your interest. Take a look at our events calendar or our Facebook events page for ways to join us and learn about the animals we all love!

How You Can Help

The best way to help homeless and abused pets at Lollypop Farm right now is with a monetary donation. Your financial gifts provide us the flexibility to give animals what they need, when they need it. Please consider becoming a Fur-Ever Yours monthly donor to help animals all year long.

I’d like to end this message with a story to make you smile.

Pete’s Happy Tail

Pete first came to Lollypop Farm with a badly broken leg, the result of getting tangled in his wire crate. He needed immediate care in our veterinary clinic, and an extended healing period to repair his tiny bones. Pete still has a little healing to do, but he’s feeling better and walking with more confidence every day. This weekend, Pete had something special to celebrate – he officially found a family! Congrats, little guy!

So many of you have reached out during this uncertain time. Thank you. We could not be more grateful to have your support.
